Important Announcements

  • Changes coming to Anderson Hall parking lots for Spring 2018 semester

Beginning January 2, 2018, changes will be made to the permit designations and the names of Lot B and Lot 2 near Anderson Hall.

    • Lot B, which is currently for Yellow permits, will be changed to blue permit spaces and renamed Lot 2.
    • Lot 2, which is currently a mix of blue and yellow permit spaces will be designated for yellow permits and renamed Lot E.

Reserved blue, yellow and orange parking spaces in these lots will remain in their existing locations until they expire.

Every semester, Campus Parking Services conducts an audit of the number of parking spaces available on campus, looking at peak parking hours and locations and the number of permits sold, and shares that information with the Campus Parking Committee. Recent surveys of these lots showed that, on average, there were 35 unoccupied blue spaces in what is currently Lot 2. This change reallocates a portion of the spaces that are not being used by blue permit holders for the benedit of our students and overall enrollment while still preserving sufficient parking for faculty and staff.

The Campus Parking Committee is comprised of four faculty, four operating staff employees, four supportive professional staff and four students and acts as the standing advisory body to the president;  the associate vice president for facilities management and campus services; and the university community pertaining to parking and traffic problems.

Anyone driving to campus should allow ample time to travel to campus, park and walk or take the bus to their destination.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          As a reminder, parking permit restrictions are enforced from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Students and employees with evening classes are able to park in any unreserved parking spaces after 5 p.m. During that time, certain areas are enforced by NIU Police including no parking zones, handicapped spaces, reserved spaces and lots requiring permits at all times.
  • Changes coming to parking spaces in Parking Deck, Field House

Changes will be made to the permit designations of the parking spots in the Parking Deck and Lot 20 (near the Chick Evans Field House) beginning Monday, Nov. 20.

Every semester, Campus Parking Services conducts an audit of the number of parking spaces available on campus, looking at peak parking hours and locations and the number of permits sold. Based on that information, the following adjustments were recommended by the Campus Parking Committee:

    • In the Parking Deck, located at Normal Rd. and Lincoln Terrace, a portion of  Level 2 and all of Levels 3, 4 and 5 will be available to those with blue or yellow parking permits. A portion of the second level (on the south end) as well as the entire first level will remain blue permit parking.
    • In Lot 20 (near the Chick Evans Field House), sixteen more yellow permit spaces will be available.

As a reminder, parking permit restrictions are enforced from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Students and employees with evening classes are able to park in any unreserved parking spaces after 5 p.m. During that time, certain areas are enforced by NIU Campus Police including no parking zones, handicapped spaces, reserved spaces and lots requiring permits at all times.

Parking for yellow (commuter student) permits is also available in Lot 15E, (by the Rec Center), Lot L (behind the Oderkirk House on Annie Glidden Road) and Lot K (off of W. Lincoln Hwy., near the Popeye’s restaurant). These lots are convenient for anyone taking classes near the area of Graham, Gabel and the DuSable Halls. Anyone driving to campus should allow ample time to travel to campus, park and walk or take the bus to their destination.

The Campus Parking Committee is comprised of four faculty, four operating staff employees, four supportive professional staff and four students and acts as the standing advisory body to the president;  the associate vice president for facilities management and campus services; and the university community pertaining to parking and traffic problems.

  • Lot D is now a "Monday-Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m." lot instead of an "At All Times" lot. Reserved Spaces will still be as posted.
